Something Amazing!!!

A few weeks back I attended an amazing dinner in an abandoned airplane hanger prepared by Seattle's Michael Hebberoy's One+Pot dinners. Michael has begun a new endeavor entitled Songs for Eating and Drinking with renowned photographer Chase Jarvis. The project seeks to combine music and food all over the breaking of bread at the dinner table.

Of the artists who performed which included: Head Like a Kite, Saturday Knights, Loch Lomond, Tiny Vipers, Arthur, Yu, Sarah Rudinoff and We Are Golden Fences. Jesse from Tiny Vipers was my favorite.

She was so nervous that she was almost unable to perform but after a few drinks and some friendly encouragement she began her short set, but under one condition.......everyone sit down in a circle and listen in.

The footage of her performance will be released in the coming weeks but to give an idea here are a few pictures of this pretty rad event.... The food was great too!

Suicide /// Sweatshop Kid

In a club last Thursday, I saw a musician named Sweatshop Kid from Issaquah Washington give his first live performance. He sounded like Elvis on ketamine, pounding a Microkorg. Immediately I was reminded of another electronic group, from bygone days, with an ear for sassy folk and R&B songs done on electronic instruments. Suicide are a punk duo consisting of Marty Rev and Alan Vega that came out of NYC around 1980, opening up for the Clash on one of their European tours.

Suicide employ the heavy pseudo-Biblical themes of other No Wave era bands and Sweatshop kid sings about the garment industry, so there's a certain divergence thematically. Obviously, I'm a huge fan of both groups.

CHROMEO

We got a chance to interview the oddly paired Chromeo while they were in town for the Capitol Hill Block Party. Enjoy

But most exciting of all, they told us about some time they spent at the home of "Music God" Daryl Hall of the infamous Hall & Oates. They captured the experience and are kind enough to share it with the world...

I can only image what it would sound like if John Oates were there too...

ISAAC HAYES REST IN PEACE

Purveyor of later-day soul music and master of grooves, Isaac Hayes died yesterday at 65. His album Black Moses was a document that brought the positive powers of black masculine sexuality/spirituality to the mainstream. This album art hangs in my apartment.

NU MUSIC SUX: Midas Touch

Montreal-based blog/progressive house producer/dj CFCF made a name for himself last year by remixing this 1986 single by the synthy RnB outfit Mignight Star. It's probably my favorite remix of last year.

ITS BEEN DONE BEFORE, C'MON DO IT AGAIN

Who else wants to lock this guy up in their garage and just have him singing and playing drums for them while they do laundry or paint or build go-karts?
